Does your Galaxy S10 have a broken display?

In these detailed photo instructions, we show you how you can easily replace the display of your Galaxy S10 yourself.

To change the display, the back cover must first be removed. Since it is made of fragile glass and also sticks firmly to the display unit, you should allow enough time to remove it. Since many individual components have to be removed as well, we have classified this repair as difficult.

Depending on the equipment of the replacement display, it may also be necessary to take over some small parts from the old display unit.

We wish you much success and fun when replacing your display! We also look forward to an honest evaluation of this repair manual.

Getting started with the repair of your Galaxy S10

If you get stuck or have questions, you can post a comment. We’d be happy to help.

24 steps
  1. Switching off your Samsung Galaxy S10

    1. Keep the Power button pressed until the option "Switch off" is shown on the display.
    2. Confirm the "Switch off" with your finger and wait until the screen is black.
  2. Heating up the back cover

Galaxy S10 - Heating up the back cover 01
Galaxy S10 - Heating up the back cover 02
    Used tools
    Heat gun

The back cover is firmly glued. To loosen it, you have to heat it up first.

    1. First turn your Galaxy S10 with the display side down.

To avoid scratches on the display screen, you should place your device on a clean, soft surface.

    1. Use a hot air device, such as a heat gun or a regular hairdryer, and drive it evenly over the edge of the back cover from the outside.

As a rule of thumb, heat the edge of the back cover only to the point where you can still touch it without burning your fingers.

    Used tools
  3. Creating a gap

Once opened, your Galaxy S10 is no longer waterproof, and the warranty for protection against dust and splashing water expires. The backcover is made of glass and can break very easily. Therefore, be extra careful and take your time.

    1. Place a suction cup at the bottom of the backcover and pull it upwards to create a narrow gap between the backcover and the housing frame.
    2. Insert a flat, sturdy tool into the created gap. Try to enlarge the gap by pushing the backcover with the tool additionally upwards. We use the iFlex for this.
    Used tools
  4. Detaching the back cover

Take care not to insert your tool too far, so that you do not damage anything under the backcover.

    1. Use a flat plastic tool to go around the edge of the housing piece by piece. We use the iPlastix for this.

The iFlex is made of thin, sturdy metal, making it easier to get into the gap between the back cover and the case frame. However, the sharp edges of the iFlex make it easier to scratch the frame. We therefore recommend that you use the iFlex only initially and continue with iPlastix, which is made of flexible plastic, as soon as possible.

    1. To prevent the adhesive from rebonding in the areas that have already been loosened, you should always heat the edge of the display and leave individual, flat picks in the device frame.
    2. Remove the detached back cover and put it aside.
    Used tools
  5. Removing the plastic cover

    • 8 × 3,9 mm Phillips

Under the back cover there is a plastic cover which is connected to the coil for contactless charging and the NFC antenna. The cover is hooked onto the upper edge of the display unit, the coil is slightly glued.

    1. First unscrew the Phillips screws that hold the plastic cover in place.
    2. Slide a flat tool under the glued coil to carefully loosen it. We use a steel spatula for this purpose.
    3. Then lever the plastic cover with a lever tool from the upper edge of the display unit. For this purpose we use a plastic spudger.
    4. Now you can remove the cover including the coil and the NFC antenna.
  6. Disconnecting the battery

Always lever from the side where there are no small components on the mainboard. This way you avoid potential damage to capacitors or ICs.

    1. Carefully disconnect the battery contact from the mainboard with the spudger.

The battery is heavily stuck. The adhesive is only on the edge of the battery, not in the middle.

Never heat the battery directly and bend it as little as possible when removing it to avoid damaging it.

    1. Heat the battery with the hot air tool from below over the display.
    2. Using a flat, stable tool to carefully lever the battery on all sides out of its lead. We recommend using a battery spudger or an iSesamo.
    3. Take the loosened battery out of your Galaxy S10 and put it aside.

    2. Then take the detached camera out of its lead with tweezers.
  9. Removing the speaker

    • 7 × 3,9 mm Phillips
    1. Start by unscrewing the Phillips screws that secure the speaker.
    2. Then lever the speaker out of the display unit using a spudger or tweezers.

The opening where you can place the tool is marked with a small triangle.

  10. Removing the mainboard

    • 3 × 3,7 mm Phillips
    • Display connector
    • Headphone connector
    1. First, carefully remove both the display connector and the headphone jack from the mainboard using a spudger.
    2. Then remove the three Phillips screws that secure the board to the display unit.

There is a small plastic pin in the opening of the SIM tray. Make sure that it does not fall out when pulling out the SIM tray.

    1. Pull out the SIM tray. Use a pointed object or a special SIM tool to press into the small opening next to the SIM tray.
    2. Now you can carefully lever out the mainboard with a spudger and put it aside.
