Is the battery of your Galaxy S10 getting weak? Or does it not charge anymore?

Then it is time to replace the battery. This detailed step-by-step guide explains how to do it best.

The repair is a bit more difficult, because the firmly adhered glass backcover has to be removed to get to the battery. Removing the backcover can take a little time, so make sure you allow enough time for the repair.

We wish you good luck with the replacement of your battery! And we are looking forward to your review on our repair guide!

    1. Keep the Power button pressed until the option "Switch off" is shown on the display.
    2. Confirm the "Switch off" with your finger and wait until the screen is black.
  2. Heating up the back cover

    Heat gun

The back cover is firmly glued. To loosen it, you have to heat it up first.

    1. First turn your Galaxy S10 with the display side down.

To avoid scratches on the display screen, you should place your device on a clean, soft surface.

    1. Use a hot air device, such as a heat gun or a regular hairdryer, and drive it evenly over the edge of the back cover from the outside.

As a rule of thumb, heat the edge of the back cover only to the point where you can still touch it without burning your fingers.

Once opened, your Galaxy S10 is no longer waterproof, and the warranty for protection against dust and splashing water expires. The backcover is made of glass and can break very easily. Therefore, be extra careful and take your time.

    1. Place a suction cup at the bottom of the backcover and pull it upwards to create a narrow gap between the backcover and the housing frame.
    2. Insert a flat, sturdy tool into the created gap. Try to enlarge the gap by pushing the backcover with the tool additionally upwards. We use the iFlex for this.

Take care not to insert your tool too far, so that you do not damage anything under the backcover.

    1. Use a flat plastic tool to go around the edge of the housing piece by piece. We use the iPlastix for this.

The iFlex is made of thin, sturdy metal, making it easier to get into the gap between the back cover and the case frame. However, the sharp edges of the iFlex make it easier to scratch the frame. We therefore recommend that you use the iFlex only initially and continue with iPlastix, which is made of flexible plastic, as soon as possible.

    1. To prevent the adhesive from rebonding in the areas that have already been loosened, you should always heat the edge of the display and leave individual, flat picks in the device frame.
    2. Remove the detached back cover and put it aside.

Under the back cover there is a plastic cover which is connected to the coil for contactless charging and the NFC antenna. The cover is hooked onto the upper edge of the display unit, the coil is slightly glued.

    1. First unscrew the Phillips screws that hold the plastic cover in place.
    2. Slide a flat tool under the glued coil to carefully loosen it. We use a steel spatula for this purpose.
    3. Then lever the plastic cover with a lever tool from the upper edge of the display unit. For this purpose we use a plastic spudger.
    4. Now you can remove the cover including the coil and the NFC antenna.

The battery is heavily stuck. The adhesive is only on the edge of the battery, not in the middle.

Never heat the battery directly and bend it as little as possible when removing it to avoid damaging it.

    1. Heat the battery with the hot air tool from below over the display.
    2. Using a flat, stable tool to carefully lever the battery on all sides out of its lead. We recommend using a battery spudger or an iSesamo.

    1. To make sure that the new battery is flush with the device, first remove any adhesive residue remaining in on the inside of the display.
    2. Pull off all protective films over the adhesive surfaces of your replacement battery.

If your replacement battery has no adhesive surfaces, you can apply thin, double-sided adhesive tape to its back. Apply the tape only to the edge of the battery so that the adhesive does not come into contact with the black area inside the display frame.

    1. Turn your device on and test it with Samsung's integrated test mode.
    2. Use the following key combination: *#0*#
    3. Follow the instructions in the test menu and test e.g. the display, cameras and sensors.

If the adhesive frame at the edge of your back cover is no longer intact, you must carefully remove the adhesive residue and attach a new adhesive frame.
A back cover with an intact adhesive frame can be reattached directly.

    1. Put the back cover back in its original position.
    2. Then press it down over the entire surface so that the adhesive can bond well again.

To make the glue stick even better, you can also heat the edge of your Galaxy S10 with hot air and weigh it down with a few books.
