  1. Switching off your device

    1. Before your start the repair, switch off your device by holding down the standby button until the shutdown dialog appears on the screen.
    2. Use the touchscreen to confirm shutdown.
  2. Removing the SIM and microSD cards

    1. Remove the two trays for the SIM and microSD cards from the enclosure by pressing a SIM Tool or paperclip into the little hole until the tray comes out. Then remove both trays and the cards.
  3. Removing the back cover

    1. Carefully disconnect the back cover from the enclosure frame. The back cover is hooked onto the frame at several points. Undo the hooks by inserting a pick between the back cover and the frame. Repeat this process for the entire device.
    2. Take the back cover off of your device.
  4. Removing the speaker

    1. Remove the seven screws that hold the speaker in place.
      3 x 2.7 mm PH00 Phillips screw
      4 x 3.7 mm T5 Torx screw
    2. Remove the speaker from your device.
  5. Disconnecting the battery and display contacts

    1. Remove the three screws.
      3 x 2.7 mm PH00 Phillips screw
    2. Remove the silver cover from your device.
    3. Carefully disconnect the battery contact from the PCB by inserting your tool below the contact and lifting it. Make sure you don’t damage or break off any of the parts on the board.
    4. Disconnect the display contact the same way.
  6. Removing the upper cover

    1. Remove the seven screws that attach the cover to the device.
      5 x 2.7 mm PH00 Phillips screw
      2 x 3.7 mm T5 Torx screw
    2. The cover is made of two parts. Carefully remove the larger upper cover using a pair of tweezers.
    3. The NFC antenna’s contact is glued to the bottom of the smaller cover. Turn the cover over so you can disconnect the contact.
    4. Carefully disconnect the contact by gently pushing the steel laboratory spatula between the contact and the cover.
    5. Also remove the little cover.
  7. Disconnecting the connections to the PCB

    1. Disconnect the touchscreen contact from the motherboard. Stick your tool under the contact and lift it up.
    2. Now disconnect the cable for the sensors the same way.
    3. The contact for the control buttons is secured by a little bracket. Lift the bracket to release the contact and then carefully pull out the cable. To avoid damaging the cable, don’t pull too hard or bend it too much.
    4. Remove the control buttons from the device.
  8. Removing the motherboard

    1. Lift the PCB out of your device. Insert something like a spudger below the board and lift it up.
    2. Grip the PCB between your thumb and finger, and remove it.

  10. Removing the battery

    1. The battery is also stuck to the enclosure. There’s a black tab stuck to the side of the battery that you can pull off of the battery.
    2. Pull slowly but steadily on the tab. There’s a stretchable adhesive strip attached to it. Keep pulling until you’ve removed the entire adhesive strip.
    3. The battery is glued to the enclosure in other places. To detach it, you have to carefully pry out the battery.
    4. Remove the battery from the enclosure.
  11. Installing the battery

    1. Put the battery in the original position in the enclosure.
    2. If necessary, fold the tab into place.
  12. Installing the motherboard

    1. Put the PCB in the enclosure. Make sure it’s in the exact right position. Insert the PCB at the upper end of the device first so you can push the headphone jack through the opening in the frame.
  13. Making the connections to the PCB

    1. Put the control buttons back in and connect them to the motherboard.
    2. Slide the cable back into the socket and lock the socket with the bracket.
    3. Carefully press the connector into the socket to connect the sensors to the board.
    4. Do the same thing with the touchscreen connector.
  14. Installing the upper cover

    1. Put the smaller cover upside down on the battery so you can connect the NFC antenna’s contact again.
    2. Put the antenna contact back in the hollow on the cover. Firmly press the contact and the cover together so they’ll stick to each other.
    3. Put the cover back in the right position on the motherboard.
    4. Now put the larger cover back on. Make sure the little cover and the big cover hook onto each other.
    5. Use the seven screws to attach the covers to the enclosure.

  15. Connecting the battery and display contacts

    1. Connect the PCB to the display by carefully pressing the display contact into the socket on the PCB. You’ll be able to hear the connector click into place.
    2. Connect the battery contact the same way.
    3. Position the silver cover on the PCB.
    4. Use the three screws to attach the cover to the board.

    1. Put the speaker back in the lower end of the device.
    2. Use the seven screws to attach the speaker to the device.

  17. Attaching the back cover

    1. Put the back cover back on.
    2. Use your finger to press it onto the entire frame so all the clips on the back cover click into place on the enclosure.
  18. Inserting the SIM and microSD cards

    1. Put the SIM and microSD cards back in the corresponding trays and insert the trays into your device.
    2. Push them in until they’re flush with the enclosure.
