The battery life is low. Your Galaxy Note 8 keeps crashing or won’t charge.

With this detailed step-by-step guide, you can easily replace your Galaxy Note 8 battery at home.

The repair is a bit difficult as the Galaxy Note 8 has to be opened via the glass back cover. Unfortunately, this is a rather cumbersome procedure, so plan enough time for it.

Do a backup before the repair, use a clean work surface and reserve enough time. If you are stuck at any point, just contact our live chat or write a comment on the corresponding step.

13 steps
  1. Switching off your device

Galaxy Note 8 - Switching off your device 04
    1. Turn off your device by holding down the power button until the “Power off” option appears.
    2. Use your finger to confirm that you want to shut down your Galaxy Note 8 and wait until the screen goes blank.

In the pictures you can see a Galaxy S9, because the screen of our Note 8 didn't show anything.

  2. Removing the back cover

    1. The back cover’s really glued to the chassis. Heat the device evenly with hot air to soften the glue. A temperature of 60 - 80°C should be sufficient. As a rule of thumb, you should still be able to touch your device without it being uncomfortably hot.
    2. The easiest way to loosen the back cover is to use a flat and flexible tool such as the iPlastix or iFlex. You will also need several picks to unstick the back cover all around.
    1. Heat the spot where you start and place a flat tool between the back cover and the frame.

The iPlastix is made of plastic, so it won't scratch the device. On the other hand, it's very soft and tricky to insert.

Be extra careful, the back cover can break very easily. If necessary, apply the heat several times and try again. Removing the back cover might take half an hour. Take a little more time and work carefully to make sure you don't break anything.

    1. Once the tool is inserted, stick a pick into the gap to keep it open. Then run the tool around the entire edge to gradually loosen the glue.
    2. Then heat the next part and insert the picks one by one.

The back cover glue is extra strong on the lower edge.

    1. Once the back cover is loosened, lift it very slightly. The fingerprint sensor underneath the camera is still connected with a cable.

Use a suction cup to lift the glass if you can’t find anywhere to insert the tool

  3. Disconnecting the fingerprint sensor

    • 10 × 3,7 mm Phillips
    1. Remove the screws that attach the upper cover to the display.
    2. The cover is latched onto the case, the lower part of the antenna is lightly glued in place. Slide a flat tool under the latches to disconnect them.
    3. Now remove the antenna.
  5. Disconnecting the battery contact

    • Battery connector
    1. Using the spudger, carefully disconnect the battery contact from the motherboard.
  6. Removing the battery

The battery glue is very strong, so you should use hot air again.

Never heat the battery directly and don't bend it.

The battery is glued around the outer edges but not at the center.

    1. Apply the hot air from the display side.
    2. We recommend running a flat tool, such as the iFlex, all around the battery.
    3. Now take out the battery.
Be careful not to damage the battery. Take your time and heat the glue several times.
