P9 lite - Replacing the screen

Before the repair, you should switch off your device to avoid short circuits during the repair.

1. Press and hold the standby button until the shutdown dialog appears on the screen.
2. Tap to confirm.

The back cover of the Huawei P9 Lite is clipped in all around the display unit.

1. Attach the suction cup relatively far down. Then pull on the suction cup to lift the back cover.
2. Then insert the pick between display unit and backcover and pry them apart.
3. Release the back cover clip for clip around the entire device. If it doesn't work the first time, you can use a second pick or pull it a little harder with your fingers.
4. The back cover is glued to the fingerprint sensor. You can use a heat gun to slightly heat the back cover and soften the glue.
5. Once all the clips are released, you can remove the back cover.

There is a humidity indicator over one of the screws. You can try to remove it and put it back later, but it usually breaks. So you can simply pierce it with a screwdriver.

1. The cover is secured with Phillips screws. Unscrew all screws and store them safely.
2. Lift up the cover a bit.
Attention: Several cables are attached underneath.
3. The cover is clipped in, once at the camera and once at the side. Gently move the cover to release the clips. Then unfold the cover to the side.
4. Using a spudger, carefully pry off the connector of the fingerprint sensor flex cable.
5. Remove the glued contact of the NFC antenna. If necessary, heat it gently using a heat gun and then carefully pry it off using a spatula.

• Battery connector

Now disconnect the battery to avoid short-circuits.

1. Use a spudger to carefully pry off the connector of the battery flex cable.

• 3 × 2.9 mm Phillips
• 4 × 3.8 mm Phillips

The speaker is connected to the plastic cover of the lower circuit board.

The screws have two different lengths. Store the screws separately to insert them correctly afterwards.

1. Remove the Phillips screws on the plastic cover.
2. Carefully remove the speaker and the attached cover: Slide a thin tool into the opening on the lower edge of the device and pry out the speaker.
3. Now you can take out the speaker.

• Flex cable connector
• 2 × Antenna plug

The black antenna does not need to be removed when replacing the battery.

1. Use a spudger to carefully pry off the plugs on both sides of the antenna cable.

Pry very carefully, or you might tear off the sockets from the PCBs!

2. Remove the antenna cable.
3. Use a spudger to carefully pry off the connectors on both sides of the large flex cable with the arrow.
4. Remove the flex cable.

1. Slowly soften the glue underneath the battery by heating the battery with a heat gun. Never heat the battery directly.
2. Use a broad spudger to carefully lever out the battery from all sides until it comes out easily.

Distribute the hot air evenly and heat the same spot several times instead of risking punctual overheating of the battery. You shouldn't use too much force for the spudger and don't pry from one side only, as this will bend and break the battery.

1. Insert your SIM tool into the little hole on the tray to unlock the tray.
2. Remove the tray and any SIM or microSD cards.

• Connector

1. Carefully remove the connector of the rear camera using a spudger.
2. Remove the front camera from the display unit.

• Connector

1. Use a spudger to carefully disconnect the three connectors for the volume keys, for the display and for the audio port from the mainboard.
2. Lift up the mainboard at one side using a spudger and remove it.

1. First remove the rubber gasket. It is slightly glued, but you can pull it off carefully.
2. Carefully pry out the audio port and remove it from the display unit.

1. Carefully pry out the earpiece. It is slightly glued on and comes off.

The circuit board is latched in at the top and glued at the bottom.

1. Use your tool to gradually pry off the circuit board.
2. Remove the circuit board from the display unit.

1. Carefully pry out the vibration motor and remove it from the display unit. Take care, it is glued in.

1. First take off the plastic cover.
2. Now carefully pry out the cable set including the volume keys using a flat tool. Slide the tool between cable and frame and gradually loosen the glue.

The display is built as one unit with the new frame. So you have to install the parts from the old phone into the new display unit. First remove the protective films from the adhesive areas.

1. First remove the foils for the display flex cable.
2. Press down the display flex cable to glue it in place.
3. Now remove all other protective films from the new display unit.

1. Insert the volume keys including the cable set into the display unit.
2. Place the plastic cover on the cable set and press it into place.

1. Reinsert the vibration motor into the display unit and press it down to make it stick.

Make sure the vibration motor is installed first.

1. Latch in the lower circuit board at the top and press it in at the USB port.

1. Reinsert the earpiece into the display unit and press it down to make it stick.

1. Insert the audio port into the display unit and press it down to make it stick.
2. Place the rubber gasket on the audio port and position it correctly.

• Connector

1. Insert the mainboard into the display unit. Bend back any surrounding cables, so they don't get caught under the mainboard.
2. Press down the mainboard to make it click into place.
3. Connect the three connectors (volume keys, display and audio port) to the mainboard. First carefully place them on their sockets and then carefully press them in.

• Connector

Insert the rear camera into the display unit.

Carefully press down its connector to connect the camera to the mainboard.

Place the battery into the display unit and carefully press it down to make it stick. Make sure it can't move around.

• Flex cable connector
• 2 × Antenna plug

1. Insert the antenna cable into the diplay unit.
2. Connect the antenna cable plugs to both circuit boards. First position each plug above its socket and carefully press down the plug to make it click into place.
3. Place the large flex cable back between the two circuit boards.
4. Carefully connect the connectors to each circuit board. The two connectors are different. So make sure the arrow points to the mainboard (top).

• 4 × 3.8 mm Phillips

1. Insert the plastic cover with the speaker into the display unit and press it down to make it click into place.
2. Fasten the seven Phillips screws. Be careful: They have two different lengths.

• Battery connector

1. Carefully connect the battery flex cable. Make sure the connector is aligned correctly before you press it on. It should click into place. If not, repeat this step.

• 9 × Phillips

1. Place the cover underside facing up on the battery and stick the NFC antenna contact back in place. Use the tab on the contact to position it correctly.
2. Carefully connect the connector of the fingerprint sensor flex cable to the mainboard.
3. Fold the cover onto the mainboard and press it on. Then use the nine Phillips screws to fasten it. The Phillips screws all have the same length.

1. Place the back cover on the display unit and press it down all around to make it snap into place.

1. Insert any SIM or SD cards into the tray.
2. Insert the SIM card tray back into its slot.
