The glass is broken and the screen no longer displays anything.

A short moment of not paying attention and it happens, your Huawei P30 lite falls out of your hand and hits the hard floor shortly after. Scratches and splinters now grace your display. We at iDoc Europe say it's not the end of the world, because with this step-by-step guide you can easily replace the screen of your Huawei P30 lite yourself.

We recommend replacing the display together with the frame. For this purpose, the unit is opened via the glass backcover, all components are removed from the old display and inserted into the new one. If you had a scratched frame or worn buttons before, these problems will be solved with this exchange.

If any questions arise during the repair process, please feel free to contact our iDoc Team. Simply use the comment or chat function. We wish you success with your new project and a lot of fun with your repaired Huawei P30 lite!

Getting started with the repair of your Huawei P30 lite

If you get stuck or have questions, you can post a comment. We’d be happy to help.

22 steps
  1. Switching off your Huawei P30 lite

Huawei P30 lite - Switching off your Huawei P30 lite 01
Huawei P30 lite - Switching off your Huawei P30 lite 02
Huawei P30 lite - Switching off your Huawei P30 lite 03
    1. Switch off your Huawei P30 lite by pressing the power button.
    2. Confirm the switching off and wait until the device has shut down.
  2. Removing the back cover

In this step, the heavily glued back cover of the Huawei P30 lite must be removed.

    1. First heat the frame of the unit with hot air. A temperature of 60-80 degrees is suitable for this. By heating the frame, the glue can be removed more easily.
    2. Place a suction cup in the lower part of the backcover and pull on it while pushing your opening tool into the resulting gap.

Instead of a suction cup you can also use an iSlack. This tool works like pliers and has suction cups on both sides. To get into the narrow gap first, we recommend the opening tool iFlex, which is made of thin, strong metal. Once it is inserted, it is advisable to change to a plastic tool such as the iPlastix. This is not as easy to insert into the gap, as it is somewhat more flexible. However, it is very suitable for loosening the back cover, as it does not scratch the frame of the device.

    1. Guide a plastic plectrum into the already loosened part. This prevents the glue from reattaching.
    2. Work your way along the entire edge of the back cover. Keep heating up from time to time to make it easier to remove.
    3. Be careful and patient during this step to avoid breaking anything. The backcover is made of glass and can break easily.

Be careful not to insert your tool too far into the device. On the left side are the cameras and on the right side is the flex cable of the fingerprint sensor.

  3. Removing the cover of the main board

    • 2 × 2,7 mm Phillips
    • 7 × 3,3 mm Phillips
    1. The motherboard and its connectors are protected with a cover.
    2. Remove the screws that fix the cover. Pay attention to the different screw lengths. The black screws are slightly longer than the silver ones.

In order not to confuse the different screws we recommend an iDoc magnetic mat.

    1. On one of the screws there is a small white moisture indicator. You can easily remove it and put it back on during the assembly.
    2. Lever the cover slightly upwards at various points to release it.

The cover cannot be removed from the device yet, because the connector of the fingerprint sensor has to be disconnected first.

  4. Disconnecting the battery

    Used tools
    • 1 × 2,7 mm Phillips
    • Battery Connector
    1. Above the battery connector there is still a small metal cover.
    2. Remove the screw and take the cover out of the device with tweezers.
    3. Now the battery connector is exposed and can be removed with a plastic spudger.

The battery contact should always be loosened first to prevent further current flow in the device. This prevents short circuits during repairs.

    1. Now remove the battery from the device.
    2. To do this, remove the orange adhesive tabs from the battery. Now pull the tabs evenly to remove the battery from the device.
To make it easier to remove the battery, we recommend heating the adhesive with hot air. Never heat the battery directly, but always from the display side.
    1. Make sure not to bend the battery during this step!
    2. Once the battery is detached, you can remove the foil with the pull tabs from the device to insert it into your new display later.

Our original Huawei replacement displays already have a new battery installed, in this case you can skip taking over the pull tabs. Nevertheless we recommend to remove the battery from the old display in order to recycle the two components properly.

    1. Now take your new display and compare it with the old one.
    2. It may be that small parts of your old display still need to be transferred to the new one.
    3. Then remove all protective films over adhesive surfaces and various openings.

We don't use a new display in this manual because ours still worked perfectly. But the disassembly works the same way with a new display. If your new display already has a battery installed, you can skip the step of inserting the battery.
