Getting started

If you get stuck or have questions, you can post a comment for each step. We’d be happy to help.

13 steps
  1. Switching off your device

Galaxy Note 9 - Switching off your device 01

Galaxy Note 9 - Switching off your device 03
    1. Turn off your device by holding down the power button until the “Power off” option appears.
    2. Use your finger to confirm that you want to shut down your Galaxy Note 9 and wait until the screen goes blank.
  2. Removing the back cover

Galaxy Note 9 - Removing the back cover 06
    1. The back cover’s really glued to the chassis. Heat the device evenly with hot air to soften the glue. A temperature of 60 - 80°C should be sufficient. As a rule of thumb, you should still be able to touch your device without it being uncomfortably hot.
    2. The easiest way to loosen the back cover is to use a flat and flexible tool such as the iPlastix or iFlex. You will also need several picks to unstick the back cover all around.
    1. Heat the spot where you start and place a flat tool between the back cover and the frame.

The iPlastix is made of plastic, so it won't scratch the device. On the other hand, it's very soft and tricky to insert.

Be extra careful, the back cover can break very easily. If necessary, apply the heat several times and try again. Removing the back cover might take half an hour. Take a little more time and work carefully to make sure you don't break anything.

    1. Once the tool is inserted, stick a pick into the gap to keep it open. Then run the tool around the entire edge to gradually loosen the glue.
    2. Then heat the next part and insert the picks one by one.

The back cover glue is extra strong on the lower edge.

    1. Once the back cover is loosened, lift it very slightly. The fingerprint sensor underneath the camera is still connected with a cable.

Use a suction cup to lift the glass if you can’t find anywhere to insert the tool

  3. Disconnecting the fingerprint sensor

Galaxy Note 9 - Disconnecting the fingerprint sensor 01

Galaxy Note 9 - Disconnecting the fingerprint sensor 03
    1. After detaching the back cover, carefully lift it and disconnect the fingerprint sensor using the spudger.
    2. Then you can completely remove the back cover and set it aside.
  4. Removing the NFC antenna

    • 11 × 4,0 mm Phillips
    1. Remove the screws that attach the upper cover to the display.
    2. The cover is latched onto the case, the lower part of the antenna is lightly glued in place. Slide a flat tool under the latches to disconnect them.
    3. Now remove the antenna.
  5. Disconnecting the battery contact

Galaxy Note 9 - Disconnecting the battery contact 01
Galaxy Note 9 - Disconnecting the battery contact 02
Galaxy Note 9 - Disconnecting the battery contact 03
    • Battery connector
    1. Using the spudger, carefully disconnect the battery contact from the motherboard.

Always lever from a side where there are no small components on the motherboard. This avoids unintentional damage to capacitors or ICs.

  6. Removing the battery

The battery glue is very strong, so you should use hot air again. The battery is glued around the outer edges but not at the center.

Never heat the battery directly and don't bend it.

Watch the video (playbutton in the upper right corner of the first picture) to see the release of the battery.

    1. Apply the hot air from the display side.
    2. We recommend running a flat tool, such as the iFlex, all around the battery.
    3. If the iPlastix is not strong enough, you can also use a wide battery spudger.
    4. Slide a flat tool under the battery to gradually loosen the adhesive. Do not push the tool too far in, otherwise you could damage the display from below.
    5. Lift up the battery and remove it from the device.
Be careful not to damage the battery. Take your time and heat the glue several times.
  7. Preparing the new battery

    2. Transfer the black sticker from the old battery to the new one. You can remove it carefully with a pair of tweezers.
    3. Remove the protective film on the back of the new battery.
  8. Inserting the battery

    1. Put the battery in the enclosure. It fits perfectly into the compartment in the middle of the enclosure.
    2. Press the battery firmly into the enclosure so the glue will stick better.

Remove excess adhesive so that the battery sits flat in the phone.

  9. Connecting the battery

    • Battery connector
    1. Connect the battery to the motherboard. Press the contact onto the connection on the motherboard until you hear it click into place.
  10. Installing the NFC antenna

    • 11 × 4,0 mm Phillips
    1. Put the cover with the antenna back in the enclosure after hooking it onto the top of the enclosure.
    2. Then press the cover with your fingers until it clicks gently into place all over.
    3. Fasten the phillips screws.
  11. Preparing the backcover

Galaxy Note 9 - Preparing the backcover 01
Galaxy Note 9 - Preparing the backcover 02
    1. Before you put the back cover back on the case, inspect the adhesive. It should sit evenly on the edge so that the back cover can be placed flush. Remove excess glue if necessary.
  12. Connect fingerprint sensor

Galaxy Note 9 - Connect fingerprint sensor 01
Galaxy Note 9 - Connect fingerprint sensor 02
Galaxy Note 9 - Connect fingerprint sensor 03
Galaxy Note 9 - Connect fingerprint sensor 04
    • Fingerprint connector
    1. Before attaching the back cover, plug in the fingerprint sensor connector.
    2. Use a plastic tool to reach the connector.
  13. Attaching the back cover

Galaxy Note 9 - Attaching the back cover 01
Galaxy Note 9 - Attaching the back cover 02
    1. Put the back cover back in its original position.
    2. Press the back cover on all over so the glue will stick.

You can also heat your device with hot air and then clamp it or weight it down with a couple books so the glue will stick better.

If you install a new backcover, now remove the last protective films from the adhesive surfaces.
