Getting started with the repair of your Galaxy A51

If you get stuck or have questions, you can post a comment. We’d be happy to help.

27 steps
  1. Switching off your Samsung Galaxy A51

Galaxy A51 - Switching off your Samsung Galaxy A51 01
Galaxy A51 - Switching off your Samsung Galaxy A51 02
Galaxy A51 - Switching off your Samsung Galaxy A51 03

We recommend that you use our checklist to test the basic functions of your phone before repair. This way you can rule out the possibility that anything has been damaged during the repair. Afterwards you have to switch off your A51 to avoid a potential short circuit.

    1. To do this, first press and hold the side and volume down key simultaneously for a few seconds.
    2. Tap on "Switch off" in the displayed menu.
    3. Your phone will now shut down completely within a few seconds.
  2. Heating up the back cover

Galaxy A51 - Heating up the back cover 01
Galaxy A51 - Heating up the back cover 02
    Used tools
    Heat gun

The Galaxy A51 is opened via the firmly adhered plastic back cover. To remove it, you first have to heat the adhesive film with hot air. Use a hot air device such as a heat gun or a regular hair dryer.

    1. First, place your phone face down on a soft, clean surface.
    2. Move the hot air device evenly over the edge of the back cover.

A rule of thumb: The edge of the back cover should only be heated up to a point where you can still touch it without getting your fingers burned. The top and bottom edges of the back cover are glued especially tightly together.

  3. Lifting up the back cover

Once the edge of the back cover has warmed up sufficiently, you can start to carefully remove it from the middle frame.

Opening the Galaxy A51 will void the manufacturer's warranty.

    1. Place a suction cup in the lower part of the back cover and pull it slowly upwards to create a narrow gap between back cover and middle frame.
    2. At the same time try to insert a flat, stable tool into the gap and enlarge it. We recommend the iFlex and flat plastic picks for this.

The iFlex is made of very thin, stable metal and has sharp edges. To avoid scratching the frame of your device, we recommend that you start with the iFlex at this stage and continue as early as possible with a flat plastic pick. The easiest way to insert the tool is to place it in one of the two corners of the lower frame of your device.

  4. Detaching the back cover

    Heat gun

Be careful not to insert your tool too far into the device to avoid damaging components.

    1. Once a gap is created, remove the back cover from the middle frame piece by piece by moving the tool along the edge of the back cover.
    2. Press it upwards at the same time to release it from the middle frame.

At regular intervals, place flat picks at the loosened points of the back cover frame so that the adhesive cannot rebond. For this, turn the picks from the pointed side to their broad side.

Warm up the glue with hot air at regular intervals to make it easier to loosen.
    1. One the back cover is entirely detached, put it aside.
    Used tools
  5. Removing the SIM tray

    • 13 × 3.5 mm Phillips

The middle frame is not glued, but firmly hooked into the display unit with plastic lugs.

    1. First loosen all screws that fix the middle frame to the display with a Phillips screwdriver.

For the storage of loosened screws and small components it is advisable to use a screw storage box. We recommend our magnetic pad for this purpose. On this pad, the removed components can be arranged in the same way as they were installed in the telephone.

    1. In the next step, remove the SIM tray from the middle frame by pressing with a SIM tool, or another pointed object into the small round opening next to it.

  6. Removing the middle frame

    1. Now turn your A51 upside down with the screen facing up.
    2. Attach a suction cup to the lower edge of the display and pull it upwards.
    3. At the same time insert a flat, stable tool between the display unit and the center frame to create a gap. We use the iFlex initially, and then the iPlastix.

The iPlastix is particularly suitable for loosening the middle frame. It is made of sturdy, flexible plastic, so you can insert it easily without scratching the edge of the display. The easiest way to detach the display unit from the middle frame is to insert the iPlastix into one of the two corners at the bottom edge of the display.

Take care not to insert your tool too deeply to avoid damaging anything on the inside of the display unit.

    1. Run the tool once around the display edge and press it upwards to release the plastic lugs of the middle frame.
    2. Put the middle frame away and the display unit in front of you with the display screen facing down.

To prevent a short circuit during the repair, you must disconnect the battery from the mainboard as soon as possible.

When detaching the battery connector make sure that you start from the side where there are no small components on the board. This will prevent possible damage.

    1. Use a sturdy plastic lever tool to slide under the battery connector and carefully lift it off. We recommend a handy plastic spudger for this purpose.

The battery is glued in the display unit over a wide area. In order to remove it, you must first heat the glue with hot air.

Never heat the heat-sensitive battery directly, but always from the side of the display only .When removing the battery, take care not to bend it or damage it otherwise.

    1. Turn your phone upside down with the display facing up and move hot air evenly over the area where the battery is located.
    2. Turn the display unit over again and use a sturdy plastic tool to slide it under one edge of the battery to gently lift it up. We use the battery spudger for this.
    3. If the battery is slightly loosened, you can use a flat, flexible tool such as the iPlastix to slide it under the battery to completely detach it from the display unit.

  10. Removing the mainboard

    • Connector
    • 1 × 3.0 mm Phillips

The mobile phone antenna cable is attached to the mainboard. With a Phillips screw the board is connected to the display unit.

    1. First loosen the antenna cable from the board by carefully lifting the metal head of the cable upwards with a pair of tweezers.
    2. Take the detached antenna cable out of its guide and then loosen the single screw of the mainboard.
    3. You can easily remove the loosened mainboard from your device with your fingers.

  22. Inserting the battery

    Galaxy A51 - Inserting the battery 01
    Galaxy A51 - Inserting the battery 02
    Galaxy A51 - Inserting the battery 03

The replacement display for the Galaxy A51 does not come with new adhesive strips to attach the battery. Usually, the adhesive residues on the back of the battery are sufficient to fix the battery securely in the display unit.

Make sure that the adhesive residues do not form thick lumps. Clumped adhesive residues lead to uneven, unstable positioning of the battery and can have a negative effect on the entire device.

If you want to be on the safe side, you can completely remove the adhesive residue and apply thin, double-sided adhesive tape to the back of the battery. We use our universal adhesive tape for this.

    1. Place the battery in its guide in the display unit and press it firmly so that the adhesive bonds.

  25. Installing the middle frame

    • 12 × 3.5 mm Phillips

Once the battery is connected, the middle frame can be installed.

Take care to align the middle frame correctly. The recess for the camera can be used for orientation.

    1. Place the middle frame on the display unit and press it firmly so that it locks into place from all sides.
    2. Then slide the SIM tray into the middle frame of your Galaxy A51.

The printing on the SIM tray must point towards display.

If the SIM tray does not slide in easily, the mainboard may not be seated properly.

    1. Finally fix the middle frame to the display unit with the Phillips screws.

    2. Align the new frame with the back cover on trial.

The corners of the adhesive frame are different and will help you align it correctly.

    1. Once the frame is correctly aligned, you can pull off the first protective film from the frame's bottom and press the frame on the edge of the back cover.

A spudger will help you to attach the frame as smooth as possible.

    1. Now remove the two protective films from the top of the adhesive frame.
    2. Finally, remove the protective film from the edge as well, so that only the black adhesive film remains on the edge of the back cover.
