The screen of your Motorola moto g10? The touch screen does not work properly anymore?

Then a screen replacement is the method of choice. In this detailed photo tutorial, we will show you step by step how to do it best.

Once you open your device, the specified IP certification (protection against dust and water ingress) will expire. If the glass of your screen is heavily cracked, you should secure it with tape to be able to open your device safely. This avoids potential injuries during the repair and prevents small glass particles from breaking off and falling into the device.

To avoid scratches on case and screen glass, make sure your workspace is clean and level.

We wish you good luck with your repair!

Getting started with the repair of your moto g10

If you get stuck or have questions, you can post a comment. We’d be happy to help.

53 steps
  1. Switching off your Motorola moto g10

moto g10 - Switching off your Motorola moto g10 01
moto g10 - Switching off your Motorola moto g10 02

Use our checklist to test the basic functions of your Motorola moto g10 before repairing. This way you can check afterwards if your repair was successful.

    1. Press and hold the power button until the Power Off menu appears on the screen.
    2. Tap Power off in the displayed menu. Your smartphone will shut down within a few seconds.
  2. Removing the SIM tray

moto g10 - Removing the SIM tray 01
moto g10 - Removing the SIM tray 02
    Used tools
    1. Press a thin, pointed object into the small round opening next to the SIM tray to push it out of the device frame. We use a SIM tool for this purpose.
    2. Then pull the tray completely out of the frame.
    Used tools
  3. Detaching the back cover

moto g10 - Detaching the back cover 01
moto g10 - Detaching the back cover 02

The plastic back cover is hooked into the screen unit and slightly glued as well. It can be loosened particularly well with a flat plastic tool, such as a pick or the iPlastix.

The frame is especially unstable at the opening where the SIM tray used to be. Therefore, be particularly careful at this point.

    1. Carefully slide your tool under the edge of the back cover.
    2. Now move the tool around the back cover piece by piece. The hooks with the screen unit should loosen audibly and noticeably.
    Used tools
  4. Detaching the back cover

moto g10 - Detaching the back cover 02
moto g10 - Detaching the back cover 03
    Used tools
    Heat gun

The back cover is glued separately around the camera module and fingerprint scanner.Press down the camera module and fingerprint scanner when detaching the back cover, so that they are not accidentally torn off.

    1. Heat the adhesive by briefly running a hot air device over it. We use a heat gun for this, but a normal hair dryer will also do.
    2. Carefully detach the back cover.
    Used tools
  5. Removing the protective films

moto g10 - Removing the protective films 01

There are strips of protective film on the edge of the screen unit. Since they partly cover the screws, they have to be removed.

    1. Carefully pull off the strips with tweezers.
    2. Discard them if you do not want to reattach them after the repair.
    Used tools
  6. Unscrewing the plastic cover

    • 2 × 3.3 mm Phillips
    • 7 × 3.9 mm Phillips

Use a screw storage to keep an overview during the repair and avoid losing anything. Use an old sewing box, for example. With our high-quality magnetic pad, you have the additional advantage that nothing slips.

    1. Loosen the nine Phillips screws from the plastic cover above the motherboard.
    2. Arrange them on the magnetic pad in a way that you can easily identify the two different screw lengths later on.
  7. Removing the plastic cover

The fingerprint sensor lies on the plastic cover. To avoid damaging it, you should hold aside when removing the plastic cover.

    1. Carefully lever the plastic cover upwards, so that the lugs that hook it into the screen unit are released. We use a plastic spudger for this.
    2. Hold the fingerprint sensor aside and take the loosened plastic cover out of the device.
    Used tools
  8. Disconnecting the battery

    moto g10 - Disconnecting the battery 01
    moto g10 - Disconnecting the battery 02
    Used tools
    • Connector

Always detach the battery connector as soon as possible to avoid a potential short circuit. When separating connectors, always start from the side where there are no small components on the motherboard. This way you avoid potential damage.

    1. Carefully pry the battery connector from the motherboard with a plastic spudger.
    Used tools
  9. Disconnecting the fingerprint sensor

  11. Heating up the battery

moto g10 - Heating up the battery 01
moto g10 - Heating up the battery 02
    Used tools
    Heat gun
The battery of the moto g10 is heavily glued to the screen unit. The adhesive has to be heated up first in order to remove it.

Never heat the heat-sensitive battery directly, but only from the screen side.

    1. Turn your device with the screen side facing upwards.
    2. Heat the screen with your hot air device at the spot where the battery is located.
    Used tools
  12. Lifting up the battery

Once the adhesive has warmed up sufficiently, the easiest way to lift the battery is to use a suction cup and a plastic lever tool.

    1. Place the suction cup on the lower edge of the battery and pull it upwards to lift the battery up.
    2. At the same time, use a plastic lever tool on the lower edge of the battery to push the battery upwards. We use the battery spudger for this purpose.
    Used tools
  13. Removing the battery

The battery can be loosened particularly well if you move the iPlastix under the battery with a knife movement.

    1. Insert the flat iPlastix at the lifted edge and slide it under the battery bit by bit to completely detach it from the bottom of the screen unit.
    2. Take the loosened battery out of your device.
    Used tools
  14. Disconnecting the front camera

    • Connector

A thin copper film is attached above the front camera and its connector. It serves to dissipate heat and should therefore not be damaged or removed.

    1. Carefully loosen the copper film with a pair of tweezers to access the connector underneath.
    2. Subsequently lever the connector of the front camera off the board.

    • Connector

The power button and the volume buttons are attached to the motherboard via the same connector. The connector is inserted into a kind of lock.

    1. Open the connector lock by carefully levering it upwards with a spudger.
    2. Next, pull the short end of the flex cable from under the lock.
    Used tools
  17. Detaching the flex cable of the volume and power button

    Used tools
    Heat gun

The main part of the flex cable from the power and volume buttons is glued to the side of the case frame and intergated in a black protective coating.

    1. Heat the black coated flex cable briefly with hot air.
    2. Detach the flex cable from the case frame piece by piece by running a flat, sturdy tool underneath it. We use tweezers for this purpose.
  18. Separating connectors on the motherboard

    • Connector

The remaining connectors attached to the motherboard are the connector of the screen and the antenna cable.

    1. Separate the two remaining connectors from the motherboard. A pair of tweezers is particularly suitable for separating the small connector of the antenna cable.
    Used tools
  19. Unscrewing the motherboard

    • 2 × 2.9 mm Phillips
    1. Loosen the two Phillips screws from the motherboard.
    2. Place it on a field of the magnetic pad.
