Getting started with the repair of your iPhone 6 Plus

If you get stuck or have questions, you can post a comment. We’d be happy to help.

19 steps
  1. Turning off your Device

iPhone 6 Plus - Turning off your Device 01
iPhone 6 Plus - Turning off your Device 02
    1. Turn your iPhone off completely to avoid damaging it during the repair. Press the standby button for about three seconds until the slider appears.
    2. Wipe it from left to right. Now your iPhone will shut down completely, which can take about ten seconds.
  2. Removing the enclosure screws

iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the enclosure screws 01
iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the enclosure screws 02
    1. You need a pentalobe screwdriver to open the iPhone 6 Plus.
    2. Remove the two pentalobe screws at the bottom of the enclosure. They are located to the right and left of the Lightning connector. Put the screws in the same container.
      2 x 3.8 mm pentalobe screw
  3. Lifting the display

iPhone 6 Plus - Lifting the display 01
iPhone 6 Plus - Lifting the display 02
iPhone 6 Plus - Lifting the display 03
    1. Put your iPhone 6 Plus on a soft, clean surface to avoid scratching the back.
    2. To lift the front panel, you need a suction cup and a hard plastic pick. If the screen is severely cracked, cover all of it with packing tape before you continue.
    3. Place the suction cup over the Home button (if possible) or next to it (see figure 1). While lifting the screen with the suction cup, insert the hard plastic pick between the aluminum frame and the display frame and press down the aluminum frame. Also use the hard plastic pick to raise the screen (see figure 2). This usually takes several attempts.
    4. As soon as you can lift the screen a few millimeters, you have to carefully work your way around the outside until it’s loosened on both sides (see figure 3).
  4. Disconnecting the battery connector

iPhone 6 Plus - Disconnecting the battery connector 01
iPhone 6 Plus - Disconnecting the battery connector 02
iPhone 6 Plus - Disconnecting the battery connector 03
    1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the Phillips screws on the battery connector (see figure 1). Then lift the cover (see figure 2). Put all the parts in the same container.
      1 x 3.2 mm Phillips screw
      1 x 2.3 mm Phillips screw
    2. Now carefully lift the battery connector by inserting the pointed tip of the ESD spudger slightly below the connector (see figure 3). If you don’t have a spudger, you can also try using your fingernail.
  5. Disconnecting the connectors

iPhone 6 Plus - Disconnecting the connectors 01
iPhone 6 Plus - Disconnecting the connectors 02
    1. First remove the five Phillips screws from the silver cover (see figure 1). Put the screws in the same container. Then lift the cover to remove it.
      1 x 1.6 mm Phillips screw
      3 x 1.2 mm Phillips screw
      1 x 2.9 mm Phillips screw
    2. Disconnect the following four overlapping connectors (see figure 2) in the order shown below. Be very careful. Place the pointed tip of the spudger very slightly below the contact and lift it up.
      Front camera/sensor/earpiece/ambient microphone
      Touch ID cable
      LCD
      Touchscreen
    3. Test the new display.
      • Temporarily connect the new display assembly. The LCD connector is a little tricky to connect.
      • Start the iPhone and check whether the LCD and touchscreen work properly. Make sure the connectors are securely plugged in to the connections. If not, the display will remain black or stripes will appear on it.
      • If the display is slightly yellow, see the last step in this manual.
  6. Removing the earpiece

iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the earpiece 01

iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the earpiece 03
    1. The earpiece is on the back of the display unit. Remove the three Phillips screws from the cover on the earpiece (see figure 1) and put them in the same container.
      2 x 2.2 mm Phillips screw
      1 x 1.3 mm Phillips screw
    2. Now remove the cover. Put it in the container with the screws you removed beforehand (see figure 2).
    3. The earpiece is under the front camera’s ribbon cable. Fold the cable slightly to the side so you can remove the earpiece (see figure 3).
  7. Removing the front camera/sensor

    iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the front camera/sensor 01
    iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the front camera/sensor 02
    iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the front camera/sensor 03
    1. Remove the cable set in two steps: First remove the sensors by inserting the spudger below the cable set but above the small gold ambient microphone and lifting the sensors out (see figure 1).
    2. Now insert the spudger below the ribbon cable at the point where the ambient microphone is (see figure 3). It’s slightly glued in place at this point.
    3. Now you can lift the cable set to remove it (see figure 3).
  8. Removing the Home button

      2 x 1.8 mm Phillips screw
    2. Using the spudger, carefully disconnect the contact of the Home button cable (see figure 3).
    3. Carefully insert the flat end of the spudger below the cable set, which is generally glued in place, to detach it (see figure 4).
    4. The Home button is glued to the screen from the inside. Using your finger, carefully press the button inward from the front side (see figure 5).
    5. Once the cable set is detached, you can lift it out.
  9. Removing the rear panel

iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the rear panel 01

      2 x 1.8 mm Phillips screw
      6 x 1.2 mm Phillips screw
    2. The connector of the Home button’s connection cable is glued to the back of the display. Carefully detach it using the laboratory spatula (see figure 2).
    3. Now remove the rear panel (see figure 3).

  11. Preparing the new display

iPhone 6 Plus - Preparing the new display 01

      • Sensor bracket (lightly glued in place)
    2. You can also take the sticker from your old display.

      2 x 2.2 mm Phillips screws
      1 x 1.3 mm Phillips screw

Note that the screws aren’t the same length. If you mix them up, a screw will press against the display glass from the inside and damage it.

  16. Connecting the display

iPhone 6 Plus - Connecting the display 01
iPhone 6 Plus - Connecting the display 02
