    1. To protect your iPhone 11 from damage during repairs, turn it off completely. To do this, press and hold the Standby button and one of the two volume buttons for about three seconds.
    2. If the slider shows the message "Turn off", you can wipe it from left to right. Your phone will now shut down completely. This process takes about ten seconds.
  2. Removing the pentalobe screws

    Wiha PicoFinish Pentalobe Screwdriver PL1
    • 2 × 6,8 mm Pentalobe

Use a Pentalobe screwdriver (PL1) to open your iPhone 11.

    1. On the lower side of the housing, to the right and left of the Lightning connector, you will see two Pentalobe screws. Remove both and place them in a shared field on the magnetic pad.

Once the device has been opened, the guaranteed protection against dust and splashing water according to the IP68 classification will expire.

    1. Place your iPhone 11 on a soft, clean surface. This will avoid scratches on the back of your device in this step.
    2. To lift the screen, you'll need a suction cup, a hard plastic plectrum and a hot air dryer. Is your glass very badly splintered? Then stick a strip of parcel tape on the glass in advance to protect yourself from splinters.
    3. To remove the glued screen from the frame, heat the edge of the display with your hairdryer to about 60° C (140° F) degrees.
    4. Now place the suction cup on the lower edge of the iPhone. Use the key ring on the suction cup to lift the display. At the same time, push the hard plastic plectrum between the case and display frame and press the case frame down. To remove the display adhesive, you must move the plectrum completely around the iPhone.

The tool should not be inserted further than about 5mm into the device to avoid damaging any components inside the iPhone. This is especially important on the side of the standby button, as this is where the sensitive flex cables from the display are located.

You can also use an iFlex instead of the hard plastic plectrum. However, this can leave scratches on the frame.

    1. Once you have passed around the device with the plectrum, you can now push the display upwards using the plectrum This will release the metal clamps from the frame.
    2. Now open the display to the side. To avoid overstretching the flexible cables, you can lean the display against a stable object or use the iHold.

Do not open the display more than a little over 90 degrees to avoid damaging the sensitive flexible cables.

    Wiha PicoFinish Y-Type Screwdriver Y000
    • 5 × 1,1 mm Y-Type
    • Touch connector
    • LCD connector
    • Earpiece connector

The three display connectors for the earpiece, LCD and touch screen are secured with a metal plate.

    1. With a Y-type Y000 screwdriver you can remove the Y-type screws of the metal cover. Place all parts in a common field on the magnetic mat.

With the iPhone 7 Apple introduced the Y-type screws. Maybe you also heard the term Tri-Point or Tri-Wing, which is a wrong name for this type of screws. To remove them, be sure to use a suitable screwdriver to avoid damaging the screw heads.

    1. Once the metal cover is removed, you can carefully take off all three connectors. To do this, use a plastic spudger, not a metal one. Put the spudger under the connector and lift it gently.
    2. Now you can remove the display. Don't be surprised if there are traces of glue on the frame and display.

Next, you release the battery to completely disconnect your iPhone 11 from the power supply.

    1. Remove the screws that are located on the cover plate above the battery contact.
    2. Take off the cover plate. Place all the parts together on a field on your magnetic mat.
    3. Now you can carefully lift off the battery contact with a spudger and bend it a little to the side. Be sure to use a plastic spudger to avoid a short circuit.

    • 4 × 1,5 mm Phillips
    • 1 × 1,2 mm Phillips
    1. Remove the screws from the cover plate over the speaker. The screws are of different lengths, so be careful not to mix them up.

The easiest way to do this is with the iDoc magnet pad. There you can sort the screws as they are in the device. The screws will stay in place, nothing will get lost.

    1. Afterwords, take the cover off.
  7. Removing the taptic engine

    1. Remove the slightly glued rubber cover over the contact of the Taptic Engine.
    2. Then loosen the screws on both sides of the Taptic Engine.
    3. Remove the cover plate and carefully loosen the contact with a spudger.
    4. Then you can remove the Taptic Engine.

    • 2 × 1,5 mm Phillips
    • 1 × 3,0 mm Standoff
    • 2,3 mm Standoff
    1. Remove the screws that secure the speaker in the unit.

One of the screws also holds a small metal clip. Remember the orientation of this clamp so that you can insert it correctly later. Another screw holds a small flex cable - there is another screw underneath.

There are special screwdrivers for the standoff screws, which have a centering pin in the middle. This is the easiest way to loosen the screws. Alternatively you can use a narrow slotted screwdriver to loosen the screws.

The speaker is glued to the bottom edge of the unit. Use hot air to make the glue easier to remove.

    1. Lift the speaker slightly and remove it from the unit.
  9. Removing the battery

The six pull tabs of the adhesive strips are now freely accessible - you can pull them out carefully.

    1. Loosen the black tab with a pair of tweezers and pull it gently.
    2. You can now pull out the adhesive strip with your fingers or grab it firmly with the tweezers and gradually wind it up.

While you pull, you have to keep the adhesive strip as flat as possible, otherwise it will tear. Hold the battery and iPhone firmly while you release the tape to prevent the battery from falling out of the device.

Be careful not to damage any other components or flex cables when pulling them out.

If a strip of tape tears, gently lever the battery out with a wide spudder. Try to avoid bending the battery too much. If necessary, heat the device from the underside in order to loosen the remaining adhesive with the heat.

    1. Once you have removed all the adhesive strips, you can take the battery out of the iPhone.

Do not use any other glue or double-sided adhesive tape, but use suitable adhesive strips. This way you can remove the battery later in the same way. You may already have received matching adhesive strips with your spare battery, so you don't have to get them separately. If you order from iDoc, we provide you with tapes that match your iPhone 11 battery.

    1. First remove the blue protective film and place the adhesive strips in the middle of the battery. Make sure it's not too far up or down so you can easily fold over the tabs.
    2. Then stick the black tabs on the sides.
    3. Finally, remove the blue protective film to insert the battery into the iPhone 11.

    1. First place the battery on an edge and check that it is in the right place. The connector must be directly above the contact on the logic board. The battery should have enough space and not touch anything.
    2. Does everything fit? Then press the battery slightly into the device.

    4. Mount the small flex cable as well.

In the pictures we show you how to apply the adhesive frame using iPhone 8 as an example. iPhone 11 is very similar in its design, so the adhesive is applied in the same way.

    1. Remove the adhesive residue from the metal frame and display. This will ensure a proper fit of the adhesive frame.
    2. Now you're ready to apply the new glue frame. Remove the first protective film.
    3. First place the adhesive frame on one edge of the case. From there, you can apply it to the device bit by bit. Do not press the adhesive frame firmly until you are sure that it is in place. You can use the plastic spudger for this.
    4. Now remove the next large protective foil.
    5. Do not remove the last small protective film until you have connected the display and attached the cover plates. This way you avoid that something gets stuck on the adhesive frame.

Pay attention to the correct positioning of the adhesive frame. The corners are different and help to find the right position. The iPhone is no longer 100% waterproof after repair!

    2. Afterwards, you can plug the two display connectors and the earcup connector back together.
    3. The connectors have to fit correctly in the device. You should not slide them over the slots on the Logicboard, otherwise you could damage the contacts.
