Getting started with the repair of your iPhone 11 Pro

If you get stuck or have questions, you can post a comment. We’d be happy to help.

16 steps
  1. Switching off your iPhone 11 Pro

iPhone 11 Pro - Switching off your iPhone 11 Pro 01
iPhone 11 Pro - Switching off your iPhone 11 Pro 02

Before you start with the repair, we recommend that you test the basic functions of your iPhone 11 Pro using our checklist. This way you can verify after the repair if you have done everything right.

Turn off your iPhone after testing to avoid a potential short circuit during the repair.

    1. Press and hold the sleep/wake and the volume button simultaneously for a few seconds to turn it off.
    2. Wipe the displayed slider "Switch off" from left to right.
    3. Within a few seconds your smartphone will shut down completely.

  2. Removing the Pentalobe screws

    • 2 × 6.7 mm Pentalobe

The iPhone 11 Pro is opened via the display, which is hooked, glued and additionally attached to the rest of the case with two Pentalobe screws. The screws are attached to the left and right of the Lightning connector.

    1. Unscrew the two Pentalobe screws with a special Pentalobe screwdriver.
    2. Then put them into a screw storage.

We recommend that you use a screw storage to avoid losing any of the removed parts or screws. You can convert an old sewing box, for example. We at iDoc use our high quality magnetic pad on which you can arrange the parts as they were installed in the phone. This way you can avoid losing screws or mixing them up, which can lead to damage of the device.

  3. Heating up the screen

    Heat gun

In order to be able to remove the glued display after loosening the screws, first heat it up with hot air. Therefore, use a hot air device, such as a heat gun or a regular hair dryer.

    1. First place your iPhone on a soft, clean surface to avoid scratches on the case.
    2. Then heat the edge of the display by running the heat gun evenly over it.
As a rule of thumb, you should still be able to touch the screen without burning your fingers.

  4. Lifting up the display

When the glue of the display is sufficiently warmed up, you can start to loosen it carefully.

Opening the iPhone 11 Pro will void the manufacturer's warranty, as well as the warranty for protection against dust and water of the IP68 classification.

    1. Start by placing a suction cup on the bottom edge of the display. Pull it slowly upwards to create a narrow gap between the display and the case.
    2. Then insert a flat stable tool into the gap to enlarge it. We recommend a hard plastic plectrum and the iFlex for this purpose.

The hard plastic plectrum is only thinner at the corners. On the one hand this facilitates insertion, on the other hand this prevents you from inserting the plectrum too far into the device. The iFlex is made of extra thin, stable metal and has sharp edges. To avoid scratches on the frame of your device, we recommend that you start this step with the iFlex and continue with the hard plastic plectrum as early as possible.

Once a gap is created, you can detach the display from the rest of the housing unit piece by piece.

    1. Move the hard plastic plectrum once completely around the display frame. Press it upwards at the same time to release the hooked lugs of the display from the rear case.

You can reheat the glue with hot air at regular intervals to make it easier to remove.

As long as it is still connected, never open the display more than 180°, so that the sensitive flex cables do not tear.
    1. When the display is completely detached, you can carefully open it towards the standby button. Lean it against a stable object to avoid overstretching the flex cables.

  6. Detaching the battery connectors

    • 2 × 1.5 mm Y-Type
    • Connector
    • 4 × 1.46 mm Y-Type
    • Connector

As one of the first steps the battery should always be disconnected to avoid short circuits during the repair. The iPhone 11 Pro battery has two connectors, one on the logicboard and one on the lightning connector. The procedure is the same for both connectors:

    1. First remove the bracket plate over the battery connector by unscrewing the Y-type screws.

When detaching connectors, always start from the side where there are no small components on the board. This way you avoid potential damage.

    1. Then use a plastic lever tool to move under the connector and carefully separate it from the board. We use a plastic spudger for this.
  7. Detaching the display connectors

    • 6 × 1.16 mm Y-Type
    • Connectors

To be able to remove the display completely, the display connectors are detached from the logicboard. Removing the display makes it easier and safer to replace the battery, because the flex cables of the display are no longer in the way.

    1. First remove the bracket plate over the display connectors by loosening the Y-type screws.
When detaching connectors always start from the side where there are no small components on the board. This way you avoid potential damage.
    1. Drive a spudger under the three connectors and carefully lift them off the logicboard one after the other.
    2. Then put the detached display to the side.
  8. Removing the camera bracket plates

    • 2 × 1.44 mm Y-type
    • 2 × 1.10 mm Y-Type

The rear camera is fixed with two bracket plates. The smaller of the two plates also fixes the flex cables of the front camera.

    1. First loosen the two Y-type screws from the small bracket plate and put it aside.
    2. Then also remove the two screws from the large bracket plate and take it out of the unit.

  10. Removing the rear camera

    • Connectors

After the cover plates are removed, you have free access to the rear camera.

When detaching connectors always start from the side where there are no small components on the board. This way you avoid potential damage.
    1. Carefully separate the three camera connectors from the logicboard with a spudger.
One of the connectors is hidden under the flex cable of another camera connector.
    1. Use tweezers to lever the camera module out of its lead in the rear case.

    • Connectors

As soon as the old camera is removed, you can insert the new camera into your iPhone.

    1. Align the camera module and press it carefully into its lead on the upper edge of the rear case.
Never attach connectors by force. Damage to a connector or the slot can lead to the failure of an entire component.
    1. Then reattach all camera connectors. Press them firmly on the logicboard.
  12. Installing the camera bracket plates

    • 2 × 1.10 mm Y-Type
    • 2 × 1.44 mm Y-type

If the camera is seated in its lead, you can fix it again with the two bracket plates. Start with the large one.

Always make sure to use the correct type and length of screws, otherwise you might damage your device.
    1. Position the bracket plate over the camera module and screw it tight.
    2. Then set the small bracket plate and fasten it with screws as well.

Position the small bracket plate laterally, so that it keeps the flex cables of the front camera in place.

  13. Attaching the display connectors

    • Connectors
    • 6 × 1.16 mm Y-Type

At this point you can reconnect the display to the logicboard.

    1. Lean the display back against a stable object to avoid overstretching the flex cables when connecting them.

Never attach connectors by force. Damage to a connector or the slot can lead to the failure of an entire component.

    1. Attach the three display connectors by carefully pressing them one after the other on the logicboard.
    2. Position the bracket plate over the attached connectors and fix it with the six Y-type screws.
  14. Attaching the battery connectors

    • Connector
    • 4 × 1.46 mm Y-Type
    • Connector
    • 2 × 1.15 mm Y-Type

After the display, the battery can be reconnected as well. You should always connect it last to avoid short circuits during the repair. The procedure is again valid for both battery connectors:

    1. Carefully press the battery connector on the board so that it clicks into place audibly and noticeably.
    2. Position the bracket plate over the connector and screw it on.
  15. Testing your iPhone 11 Pro

iPhone 11 Pro - Testing your iPhone 11 Pro 01

To make sure that the repair was successful, we recommend that you test your device before you glue and screw it back together. For this purpose use our checklist again.

If something went defective after the repair, check again if everything is properly installed and connected.

  16. Installing the display

iPhone 11 Pro - Installing the display 01
iPhone 11 Pro - Installing the display 02
iPhone 11 Pro - Installing the display 03

After testing your device you can attach the display again. Usually, the adhesive residues are sufficient to fasten the display properly again. If this is not the case, you have to remove the old adhesive frame and attach a new one.

When closing the display make sure not to pinch any flex cables
    1. To do this, carefully fold it over and press it evenly into the rear case, so that it clicks into place.

  17. Fastening the Pentalobe screws

    • 2 × 6.7 mm Pentalobe

At the end of the repair the display must still be screwed.

    1. Fasten the Pentalobe screws left and right of the Lightning connector.
