  1. Removing the back cover

    1. The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact’s back cover is glued firmly in place. To remove the back cover from the chassis, you have to heat it with a heat gun to soften the glue.
    2. After heating the back cover, put on the suction cup and use it to lift the cover.A gap will appear between the frame and the cover. Use a pick to hold the gap open and expand it.
      The back cover is painted on the inside. Remove any adhesive residue carefully to avoid scratches or cracks.
    3. Use several picks to lift all the corners of the back cover.
    4. Remove the back cover.
  2. Detaching the NFC antenna

    1. Use the pointed tip of the spudger to detach the NFC antenna from the chassis.
  3. Removing the chassis screws

    1. Unscrew the 5 Phillips screws from the chassis.
      3 x 3.3 mm Phillips screws
      2 x 3.7 mm Phillips screws

    1. The chassis is hooked onto the enclosure. Insert the steel laboratory spatula between the chassis and the enclosure to disconnect them.
    2. Using the steel spatula, repeat this process all around the enclosure.
    3. Once the chassis is detached, remove it.
  5. Disconnecting the connections

    1. You have to disconnect several connectors. Make sure you don’t rip any parts off the logic board. Start with the battery connector.
    2. Then disconnect the flexible flat display cable.
    3. Now detach the vibrator motor.
    4. Disconnect the headphone jack.
  6. Removing the rear camera

    1. Carefully detach the metal bracket holding the camera in place.
    2. Use a pair of tweezers to remove the bracket.
    3. Disconnect the rear camera from the logic board.
    4. Remove the rear-facing camera.
  7. Removing the SIM and microSD cards

    1. Remove the SIM card and the microSD card from your device. Both cards are hidden under a cover.
    2. Take off the cover and remove the cards. The microSD card has its own tray.
  8. Disconnecting the logic board

    1. Remove the Phillips screw holding the logic board in place.
      1 x 2.3 mm Phillips screw

    1. Detach the logic board by using the spudger to pry it out of the enclosure a little bit.
    2. Once the logic board is detached, guide the display cable through the opening in the logic board.
    3. Remove the logic board.

  11. Transferring parts

    1. The replacement display may not have all the parts, but you can transfer them from your old display.
    2. Remove the two speakers, the headphone jack and the three covers.
    3. You can pull off the covers for the USB port and the SIM/microSD card slot.
    4. You have to use the steel laboratory spatula to remove the cover for the magnetic charger contact. You can heat the cover a little first.

    1. Position the logic board in the enclosure.
    2. Carefully guide the display cable through the opening in the logic board.

    1. Attach the logic board with the Phillips screw.
      1 x 2.3 mm Phillips screw

    1. Put the SIM card and the microSD card back in your device. Both cards are hidden under a cover.
    2. Take off the cover and put in the cards. The microSD card has its own tray.
  15. Installing the rear camera

    1. Position the rear camera in the enclosure.
    2. Connect the camera to the logic board.
    3. Secure the camera with the metal bracket.

    1. Connect the headphone jack.

    1. Position the chassis on the enclosure.
    2. Press on the chassis all around the enclosure so the chassis clicks into place on the enclosure.

    1. Connect the NFC antenna to the chassis by its contact.
  20. Attaching the back cover

    1. Attach the back cover again. Firmly press it onto the edges so the adhesive surfaces will stick.
    2. Heat the back cover to soften the glue to it will stick to the back cover better. You can also clamp the back cover in place and leave it a while so the glue can set.
