Getting started

19 steps
  1. Turning off your Device

iPhone 6s Plus - Turning off your Device 01
iPhone 6s Plus - Turning off your Device 02
    1. Turn your iPhone off completely to avoid damaging it during the repair. Press the standby button for about three seconds until the slider appears.
    2. Wipe it from left to right. Now your iPhone will shut down completely, which can take about ten seconds.
  2. Removing the enclosure screws

iPhone 6s Plus - Removing the enclosure screws 01
    1. You need a pentalobe screwdriver to open the iPhone 6s Plus.
    2. Remove the two pentalobe screws at the bottom of the enclosure. They are located to the right and left of the Lightning connector. Put the screws in the same container.
      2 x 3.3 mm pentalobe screw
  3. Lifting the display

iPhone 6s Plus - Lifting the display 01
iPhone 6s Plus - Lifting the display 02
iPhone 6s Plus - Lifting the display 03
iPhone 6s Plus - Lifting the display 04
    1. Put your iPhone 6s Plus on a soft, clean surface to avoid scratching the back.
    2. To lift the display, you need a suction cup, a hard plastic pick and a heat gun. If the screen is severely cracked, cover all of it with packing tape before you continue.Risk of injury due to broken glass.
    3. The screen is lightly glued to the frame. Use a heat gun to heat the edges of the display to about 60°C (140°F).
    4. Place the suction cup over the Home button if possible (otherwise, put it next to the button). While lifting the display with the suction cup, use the hard plastic pick to press down the aluminum frame. At the same time, insert the hard plastic pick between the aluminum frame and the display. This usually takes several attempts.
    5. Once a little gap has opened up between these two parts, you can open it further by slightly turning the pick.
    6. As soon as you can lift the display a few millimeters, you have to carefully work your way around the outside until it’s loosened on both sides.
If necessary, heat the outer edges of the display a few times.
  4. Disconnecting the battery contact

iPhone 6s Plus - Disconnecting the battery contact 01

    1. First remove the five Phillips screws from the silver cover. Put the screws in the same container. Then lift the cover to remove it.
      1 x 2.6 mm Phillips screw
      3 x 1.2 mm Phillips screw
      1 x 1.6 mm Phillips screw
    2. Disconnect the following three overlapping connectors in the order shown below. Be very careful. Place the pointed tip of the spudger very slightly below each contact and lift it up.
      Touch ID cable
      Front camera/sensor/earpiece/ambient microphone
      Display
    3. Test the new display.
      • Temporarily connect the new display assembly. The LCD connector is a little tricky to connect.
      • Start the iPhone and check whether the LCD and touchscreen work properly. Make sure the connectors are securely plugged in to the connections. If not, the display will remain black or stripes will appear on it.
      • If the display is slightly yellow, see the last step in this manual.
  6. Removing the earpiece

iPhone 6s Plus - Removing the earpiece 01
iPhone 6s Plus - Removing the earpiece 02
iPhone 6s Plus - Removing the earpiece 03
    1. The earpiece is on the back of the display unit. Remove the three Phillips screws from the cover on the earpiece and put them in the same container.
      2 x 2.7 mm Phillips screw
      1 x 1.4 mm Phillips screw
    2. Take the cover off and put it with the screws you removed before.
    3. The earpiece is under the front camera’s ribbon cable. Fold the cable slightly to the side so you can remove the earpiece.
  7. Removing the front camera/sensor cable set

    1. You have to remove the cable set in two steps. First, carefully lift the sensors.
    2. Then insert the spudger below the ribbon cable at the point where the ambient microphone is. The ribbon cable is lightly glued in place at this point.
    3. Now you can lift out the cable set.

    2. Using the spudger, carefully disconnect the contact of the Home button cable.
    3. Carefully insert the flat end of the spudger below the cable set, which is generally glued in place, to detach it.
    4. The Home button is glued to the screen from the inside. Using your finger, carefully press the button inward from the front side.
    5. Once the cable set is detached, you can lift it out.
  9. Removing the rear panel

iPhone 6s Plus - Removing the rear panel 01

    1. Remove the seven Phillips screws that hold the metal cover in place.
      7 x 1.4 mm Phillips screw
    2. Now remove the rear panel.
  10. Preparing the new display

iPhone 6s Plus - Preparing the new display 01
    1. Not all available displays have the same features. If necessary, you’ll have to take some of the following parts from your old display before installing the new screen:
      • Front camera bracket (lightly glued in place)
      • Sensor bracket (lightly glued in place)

If there’s protective film on the back of the new display, take it off.

  11. Attaching the rear panel

iPhone 6s Plus - Attaching the rear panel 01
iPhone 6s Plus - Attaching the rear panel 02
    1. Put the silver rear panel on the back of the new display and screw it in place.

It’s important to position the sensors correctly because, otherwise, the proximity sensor won’t be fully functional.
  14. Installing the earpiece

iPhone 6s Plus - Installing the earpiece 01
iPhone 6s Plus - Installing the earpiece 02
iPhone 6s Plus - Installing the earpiece 03
iPhone 6s Plus - Installing the earpiece 04
    1. Put the earpiece back in its original position between the FaceTime camera and the sensors. Then put the cover back on.
    2. Now fasten the Phillips screws. Make sure the front camera is centered on the front of the display. Move it slightly if necessary.
      2 x 2.7 mm Phillips screw
      1 x 1.4 mm Phillips screw

Note that the screws aren’t the same length. If you mix them up, a screw will press against the display glass from the inside and damage it.
